Privacy Policy

Lorenzo Vainigli built the Food Expiration Dates app as an Android application. The app is available as a free and open-source version and may also include optional Pro features unlocked through Google Play in-app purchases.

This Privacy Policy applies to Food Expiration Dates, including the free version, the open-source version, and the optional Pro features available through Google Play.

This page is used to inform visitors regarding my policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decides to use my Service.

If you choose to use my Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information collected through third-party services is used for providing, improving, and maintaining the Service. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in the Terms and Conditions, which are accessible in Food Expiration Dates unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

For a better experience, while using the Service, the app may require you to provide certain information, such as the names of food items, expiration dates, opening dates, quantities, reminder preferences, and other app-related data.

This information is stored locally on your device and is not collected by me in any way.

The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you, provide app functionality, analyze app usage, process purchases, or diagnose crashes and technical issues.

For Users in the European Economic Area (EEA)

If you are a resident of the EEA, you have certain data protection rights under the GDPR. The legal basis for processing your information through third-party services is the performance of a contract (to provide the Service and Pro features) and our legitimate interest (improving app stability and functionality). You have the right to access, update, or delete the information Google services hold about you.

Local App Data

Food Expiration Dates is designed to store your food-related data locally on your device.

This may include, but is not limited to:

  • food item names;
  • expiration dates;
  • opening dates;
  • quantities;
  • reminder settings;
  • app preferences.

I do not have access to this data, and I do not store it on my own servers.

If you uninstall the app, clear the app data, or change device without using an available backup or export feature, this locally stored data may be lost.

Purchases and Pro Features

Food Expiration Dates may offer optional Pro features through Google Play in-app purchases.

Purchases are processed by Google Play. I do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, billing address, or full payment information.

The app may receive limited purchase-related information from Google Play, such as whether a Pro purchase is active, in order to unlock the corresponding features inside the app.

Payment processing and purchase-related data are handled by Google according to Google Play and Google’s privacy policies.

The presence of optional Pro features does not change the fact that your food-related data is stored locally on your device and is not collected by me.

Log Data

I want to inform you that whenever you use my Service, in the case of an error in the app, data and information may be collected through third-party services on your phone, called Log Data.

This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when using my Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.

This information is used to understand and fix technical issues, improve app stability, and maintain the Service.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

The app may use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.

Firebase Analytics may help me understand how the app is used in an aggregated way, such as which features are used more often.

Firebase Crashlytics may collect crash reports and diagnostic information when the app encounters an error, so that I can identify and fix technical problems.

These services are provided by Google and may collect information according to their own privacy policies.

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device’s internal memory.

This Service does not use these “cookies” explicitly. However, the app may use third-party code, libraries, or services that use “cookies” or similar technologies to collect information and improve their services.

You have the option to either accept or refuse cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this Service.

Service Providers

I may employ third-party companies and individuals due to the following reasons:

  • To facilitate the Service;
  • To provide the Service on my behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services;
  • To process optional Pro purchases;
  • To assist me in analyzing how the Service is used;
  • To help diagnose crashes and technical issues.

I want to inform users of this Service that these third parties may have access to their Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on my behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose, except as necessary to provide their services and according to their own privacy policies.

Security

I value your trust in providing your Personal Information, thus I strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it.

However, remember that no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and I cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Since the food-related data managed by the app is stored locally on your device, the security of that data also depends on the security of your device, operating system, backups, and any other services you may use.

If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site.

Children’s Privacy

This Service does not address anyone under the age of 13.

I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age.

In the case I discover that a child under 13 has provided me with personal information, I immediately delete this information from any systems under my control.

If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided personal information, please contact me so that I will be able to take the necessary actions.
