With version 2.11-pro.2.0, Food Expiration Dates introduces a new feature dedicated to Pro users: the Grocery List.
The goal is simple: to take the app beyond managing the food you already have at home and support you while shopping at the supermarket as well.
The Grocery List has been designed to be quick and easy to use. You can add an item simply by entering the name of the food or product you need to buy.
The screen is organized into two lists:
- To pick up, containing all the items you still need to buy;
- Picked up, containing the items you have already checked off.
Newly added items are displayed in alphabetical order under the To pick up section. While shopping, simply tap the checkbox next to an item to mark it as purchased. The item is automatically moved to the Picked up section, keeping only the products you still need to buy at the top of the screen.
The idea is to reproduce the simplicity of a traditional paper shopping list while taking advantage of your smartphone. You don’t need a pen, there is nothing to cross out or rewrite, and the list automatically reorganizes itself as you move through the aisles.
This way, the products you still need to buy always remain at the top, while the items you have already picked up stay available at the bottom of the screen.
From your pantry to the Grocery List, and back again
A grocery list on a smartphone is certainly nothing new on its own. There are already many apps that let you create a list of products to buy and check them off while shopping.
The real advantage of the new Food Expiration Dates feature comes from its integration with your food items and their expiration dates.
The two lists can communicate with each other, allowing you to easily transfer food items from one to the other without having to enter them again manually.
Finished an item? Add it to the Grocery List
When a food item in your expiration list has been consumed, tapping the button with the trash icon will no longer delete it immediately.
A new dialog will let you choose what to do: you can delete the food item or move it directly to the grocery list, ready to be purchased again.
You can also add the item to the grocery list without removing it from your expiration list. This can be useful, for example, when a product has not run out yet but you already know you will need to buy it again.
Finished shopping? Move your items back to the expiration list
The integration works in the opposite direction as well.
Imagine you have finished shopping and returned home. The products you purchased are already in the grocery list, so there is no need to enter them again from scratch.
When you decide to remove an item from the grocery list, the app lets you choose whether to move it directly to your food list, immediately opening the screen where you can enter its expiration date.
Alternatively, you can simply delete the item from the grocery list or add it to your food list while also keeping it in the grocery list.
The goal is to reduce repetitive actions as much as possible: a food item can naturally move from home → Grocery List → home, following its normal consumption and purchasing cycle.
What’s new for the Pro plan
As mentioned at the beginning, the new Grocery List is now part of the features included in Food Expiration Dates Pro.
With this release, the Pro package continues to evolve. It started with the introduction of early reminders and is now being expanded with a new feature designed to support food management during shopping as well.
To celebrate the launch of the new Grocery List, the current €4.99* Pro Lifetime offer will remain available for another two weeks.
Until September 19 (included), you will still be able to purchase the Pro plan with a single €4.99* payment and keep lifetime access to all Pro features.
Starting September 20, Food Expiration Dates Pro will move to the following new pricing structure:
- Monthly — €1.49* per month
- Yearly — €7.99* per year
- Lifetime — €19.99* one-time payment
If you have already purchased the Lifetime Pro version, you will of course keep it: you will not need to make any additional purchase or subscribe to a recurring plan.
*Prices may vary depending on the country.
If you haven’t tried Food Expiration Dates yet, you can download it from Google Play and start organizing your food expiration dates right away.
If you already use the app and have had the chance to get familiar with it, leaving a review is always greatly appreciated: it helps other people discover Food Expiration Dates and supports its continued development and future updates.
Thank you, and happy food management!
